ENHANCING MARITIME COMMUNICATION WITH TRAINING NEEDS ANALYSIS
THE CHALLENGE
Defence Equipment & Support (DE&S) engaged Whitetree to carry out a comprehensive Training Needs Analysis (TNA) for the Maritime Multilink (MML) Stage 2 project. The MML program aimed to overcome the limitations of existing Tactical Datalinks (TDL) and to bolster interoperability amongst the air, surface, subsurface, and ground-based TDLs of the UK, US, NATO, and coalition partners. This initiative was crucial to maintain an effective war-fighting capability with the advent of advanced 5th generation platforms and C4ISR systems such as the Type 26 frigates, Queen Elizabeth Class aircraft carriers, F-35B jets, Airseeker, and P-8A Poseidon aircraft.

THE SOLUTION
Whitetree's approach to the TNA focused on crafting a training solution that was both effective in enhancing skills and cost-efficient. This was achieved through:
-
A deep understanding of cognitive and motor skills acquisition, which informed the development of learning reinforcement, feedback, and assessment strategies.
-
Expertise in determining the necessary levels of fidelity in training simulations and media attributes to ensure the most beneficial learning environment.
-
Employing a methodology that mitigated training risks and costs while assuring comprehensive training for TDL Operators and Maintainers in the operations, maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of the MML capability.
IMPLEMENTATION & RESULTS
The TNA process instituted by Whitetree resulted in:
-
A well-received suite of training documentation, acclaimed for its quality and the depth of knowledge it encapsulated.
-
An effective and efficient training framework that prepared personnel to adeptly handle the sophisticated MML systems.
-
Recognition of Whitetree's expertise in the field, underlining their ability to meet the complex requirements of modern defence training needs.
The successful delivery of the TNA by Whitetree played a pivotal role in ensuring that the MML program could be integrated seamlessly, maintaining the cutting-edge combat readiness of UK and allied defence forces.
